In the latest interview of the Future of our People series, Rachael speaks to Shaine Ismail, Director and Founder of bigspark, the UK’s fastest growing data solutions consultancy.
Shaine started bigspark three years ago, just before lockdown #1. Previously, Shaine has worked across the financial services industry for nearly two decades, including as Principal Engineer at Natwest Financial Crime.
Since starting in 2020, bigspark has grown from three people to over 100, and exciting plans are ahead. They're enjoying brilliant retention rates, with only 2 or 3 people having moved on from bigspark in the three years in operation. Shaine tells us how powerful it is to have young curious minds with a questioning mindset alongside more experienced experts, which has created a 'melting pot of different ways of thinking'.
The biggest challenge Shaine has faced as a People leader has been to overcome the complexities of a largely remote workforce, especially when it comes to helping onboard and develop career starters.
He also tells us about the power of having a clear mission, one thing to look out for when recruiting and creating the opportunity for people to succeed - and to fail.
